The Credit Union Difference
CFE is a credit union, not a bank. While credit unions resemble banks in many ways, offering a full array of financial services and products to meet your financial needs, there are many important distinctions. CFE Federal Credit Union is owned by our members. We do not have shareholders. Credit unions exist to serve members, not to make a profit. Once you’re a member, you’re always a member! Credit unions are characterized as:
- Democratically governed, each member has one vote
- Volunteer, member-elected board of directors
Credit union savings are federally insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), administered by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). The NCUSIF, like the FDIC’s Deposit Insurance Fund, is a federal insurance fund backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government.
The foundation of CFE was laid by Central Florida educators, and while our membership has expanded, our commitment to education remains steadfast. We are active in the four school districts we serve, providing financial literacy and financial support; plus we have opened high school branches, which are staffed by students and located on campus. Additionally, CFE is an involved and active corporate citizen. We support numerous organizations in the community, and we have introduced a suite of environmentally friendly products to evidence our commitment to being “green.” Our contributions in the community have earned CFE many awards.
